Trump: China deal deadline can be postponed

United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he would accept both a trade deal with Beijing or imposing a new round of punitive measures on Chinese imports. Trump told reporters at the White House that he would take into consideration postponing the March 1 deadline for reaching an agreement with China on trade, but he would prefer not to.

Trump also saidthat currently there are no plans for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in March. he stressed that he would prefer to have one-on-one talks with his Chinese counterpart when Washington and Beijing get closer to reaching a trade deal.

Earlier today, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated he looks forward to "several important days of talks" with China. Mnuchin arrived in Beijing today with the rest of the delegation from Washington for trade negotiations.
