May: Extending Article 50 will serve no purpose

British Prime Minister Theresa May stated on Tuesday that the extension of Article 50 and the consequential delay of the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union will serve no purpose, FT reported, citing two people familiar with the matter. According to the sources, the UK leader believes the extension beyond the March 29 deadline won't solve the ongoing issues and the persisting uncertainty surrounding the divorce procedure.

The news comes after it was reported earlier today that a number of MPs are planning to force the prime minister to delay the Brexit Day.

Meanwhile, May also stated earlier in the day that the chance of a no-deal Brexit would increase if her Brexit withdrawal agreement was not voted through the parliament.
