Netherlands doubles stake in Air France-KLM

The Netherlands will double its stake in Franco-Dutch airline holding company Air France–KLM, the country's Minister of Finance Wopke Hoekstra (pictured) announced on Tuesday.

By increasing the number of shares owned from 5.9% to 12.68%, the Dutch government aims to build up a shareholding equal to France's, which owns 14.3% of the company, in order to help protect the thousands of jobs and investment made by KLM in Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.

The Hague has been worried the recent changes in Air France-KLM’s management structure meant the company’s governance was "less balanced" and gave the Dutch subsidiary "a less prominent role" in the company.
