Zuckerberg: Facebook to become privacy-focused

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a blog post on Wednesday that he wants to transform the social network into a "privacy-focused messaging and social networking platform."

Zuckerberg admitted that Facebook doesn't currently have a "strong reputation for building privacy protective services but insisted the company is prepared to evolve in a way that its users expect it to. "I believe the future of communication will increasingly shift to private, encrypted services where people can be confident what they say to each other stays secure and their messages and content won't stick around forever," he stated. The Facebook CEO named several principles for the future vision of the platform which include private interactions, encryption, secure data storage and reducing permanence.

Last week, Facebook announced it will introduce an option to allow users to delete the history of actions made on the platform later this year.
