US durable goods orders up 0.4% in January

New orders for manufactured durable goods in the United States in January increased by 0.4% or $0.9 billion to $255.3 billion compared to the previous month, the US Census Bureau reported on Wednesday. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased by 0.1% while excluding defense, the figure was up 0.7%.

Shipments of durable goods last month fell by $1.3 billion or 0.5% to $257.9 billion after increasing in the two previous months. Meanwhile, unfilled orders rose by $1.4 billion or 0.1% in the same month.

Durable goods inventories increased by $1.7 billion in January, while capital goods increased $2 billion or 2.5% to $80.3 billion.
