Edison responsible for the Thomas fire - investigation

Edison International's largest subsidiary Southern California Edison Co.'s power lines were the cause of the Thomas fire, one of a number of individual disasters which occurred in 2017. An investigation by the Ventura County Fire Department said that the tragedy was initiated by two power cords crashing into one another

Southern California Edison wrote in its statement that the potential liability would have to be proven in court, arguing that the investigators failed to consider evidence which would reexamine the company's responsibility for the fire in which two people died and more than 1,000 structures were burned.

Previously, the utility provider said that its electrical equipment "likely" sparked at least one of the fires which burned nearly 282,000 acres and killed dozens of people. Pacific Gas and Electric Company was also accused of indirectly starting the fires in parts of California, killing 86 people in 2017.
