Europe ends higher despite Brexit worries

Major markets in Europe ended Tuesday's trading session in the green despite fresh worries surrounding Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. EU's Chief Negotiator for Brexit Michel Barnier told reporters earlier in the day that the block was facing "genuine uncertainty" following the failure of United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement in the British Parliament.

The FTSE 100 finished 0.34% higher, propped up by the retail sector. The CAC 40 increased 0.24% at the end of the session. Kering, Valeo and Peugeot were among the biggest winners, rising 2.70%, 3.02% and 2.74%, respectively. The German DAX rose 1.13% at the closing bell as Daimler gained 3.44% and Bayer rose 2.45%

The euro gained 0.12% against the greenback to change hands for 1.1354 at 5:42 pm CET.
