China's VP to visit US in early April for trade talks

China's Commerce Ministry said on Thursday that Vice Premier Liu He will visit the United States in early April for the eighth round of trade talks, following the trip of the US delegation led by Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to Beijing on March 28-29. The three officials have had several calls recently, it added.

The ministry also urged the US to follow the "One-China" principle, which refers to Beijing's official policy that considers Taiwan a part of its territory and not an independent state.

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that his administration has discussed keeping the current tariffs on Chinese products for a "substantial period of time," but noted earlier that talks are going "very well." The three-months long negotiations are planned to conclude with a summit between Trump and China's President Xi Jinping in mid-April the earliest.
