EU to insist on May 22 for Brexit – source

The Telegraph's correspondent in Brussels wrote on Thursday that the issue with European elections prompted decision makers in the European Union to decide it would be unacceptable to extend the date when the United Kingdom will withdraw until June 30. James Crisp said on Twitter that a high-ranking insider told him the representatives of the remaining 27 members would "insist on May 22."

"Most" EU states rejected an extension past the vote scheduled for May, according to information from a yesterday's meeting of ambassadors, he added. "Expect 'simple' written conclusions" by leaders today, while Donald Tusk, president of the European Council, is "open" for the possibility of a "special summit" in case the third meaningful vote "fails next week" in the House of Commons, according to the report.
