US imposes fresh sanctions on N. Korea

United States Treasury Department on Thursday levied additional sanctions against North Korea, targeting two Chinese freight companies allegedly violating the previously imposed trade restrictions. Additionally, the Treasury Department updated its advisory with guidelines focused on North Korea’s illicit shipping practices.

The document provides a list of possible sanctions violations, which could place a person or a company on the sanctioned list, as well as guidelines for avoiding trade with North Korea-affiliated companies or vessels suspected of breaching trade restrictions. Other annexes of the advisory provide a list of North Korean tankers capable of engaging in ship-to-ship transfers of banned import and export goods.

Previously, the North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui said her country is considering suspending talks on denuclearization with the US after the last unsuccessful summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi.
