Tusk: EU offers two Brexit delay dates

European Council President Donald Tusk confirmed the European Union offered a Brexit extension until 22 May, if the withdrawal agreement is approved by the United Kingdom's parliament next week. If the deal is rejected by the British PMs, the European Council agreed to an extension until 12 April, but will "expect the United Kingdom to indicate a way forward before this date for consideration by the European Council."

Tusk stated UK Prime Minister Theresa May has accepted the offer. He said that the discussion was "really constructive" and approached with "goodwill and determination," adding that he is "much more optimistic."

However, the European Council's conclusion also reiterated that the withdrawal agreement will not be reopened, and called for "work to be continued on preparedness and contingency at all levels," taking into account all possible outcomes of the UK's leaving the union.
