US trade negotiator Willems quitting – report

Clete Willems, member of the White House delegation working on a deal with China which would end tensions regarding trade and intellectual property, will depart "in the coming weeks," CNBC reported on Friday. The news outlet cited three anonymous sources who indicated the deputy director of the National Economic Council has spoken of the needs of his "young family" as the reason behind the resignation.

A replacement is "in the works" but it is "not yet finalized," according to the insiders. Information obtained by the media organization highlights Willems' attention to detail. The article notes he was the lead negotiator at the G7 and G20 summits and at other events. As Larry Kudlow, President Donald Trump's national economic advisor, has been missing trips to China due to sensitive health, the young official had taken his place.
