Israel confirms airstrike on Hamas leader's office in Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Monday they carried out an airstrike which destroyed the office of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza, which was used to "lead a brutal terrorist organization in a war of aggression against Israel." Besides Haniyeh's office, the Israeli military confirmed it also targeted Hamas' Internal Security Service building and the headquarters of the organization's secret military intelligence in Gaza.

According to IDF, the latest series of airstrikes against Gaza were performed in response to the recent Hamas rocket attack which hit the Sharon area in central Israel, wounding seven people. Hamas has since denied responsibility for the attack, saying that the rocket was not launched deliberately.

Meanwhile, the AFP has reported that multiple rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israeli border communities. The IDF seems to have confirmed the report by saying that air-raid sirens were sounded across southern Israel.
