May confirms she will resign as PM - MP source

British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed on Wednesday she would resign from her post for the next phase of Brexit if her deal with Brussels is approved, according to a source cited by multiple local media outlets.

"I am prepared to leave this job earlier than I intended in order to secure a smooth and orderly Brexit," May told members of the 1922 Committee, promising to step down if her withdrawal agreement is passed. However, in her address to the Tory backbenchers, May did not specify when she would leave, only that she would prefer that the next prime minister is someone "in this room" rather than from the Labour Party.

Earlier, Speaker of the British House of Commons John Bercow selected eight Brexit options that will be put up for a vote in Parliament later today, as part of the indicative votes process forced by MPs earlier this week.
