Nomura launching blockchain R&D platform

Japan's Nomura Holdings Inc. is launching a blockchain research and development project in cooperation with the University of Tsukuba, the financial holding company announced on Thursday.

Nomura's two subsidiaries, Nomura Asset Management Co. Ltd. and N-Village Co. Ltd., will work alongside researchers from Tsukuba to build a platform which will test business models and provide various services based on the blockchain. Further, they will conduct joint research and verification tests to examine how the technology can be used in the asset management industry.

Cryptocurrencies traded slightly lower, with bitcoin decreasing 0.40% against the United States dollar to change hands for $4,009.54 at 08:07 am CET, while ethereum traded 1.01% higher to $137.57 at 07:53 am CET.
