EU Commission: No-deal Brexit now likely scenario

The European Commission said on Friday that a no-deal Brexit on April 12 is now a "likely scenario" after United Kingdom lawmakers rejected Prime Minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement for the third time earlier in the day.

"The Commission regrets the negative vote in the House of Commons today," a Commission spokesperson stated. "A ‘no-deal’ scenario on 12 April is now a likely scenario. The EU... is now fully prepared for a ‘no-deal’ scenario at midnight on 12 April," the official added. The Commission also stressed that it is now up to the UK "indicate the way forward before that date" in an effort to prevent a disorderly Brexit.

After the Brexit deal was defeated in the House of Commons by a 344-286 vote, European Council President Donald Tusk called an emergency EU summit for April 10 to discuss Brexit.
