Notre Dame fire fully extinguished

Paris firefighters said on Tuesday that they have completely extinguished the fire that broke out at the Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday evening. The Paris Army Brigade (BSPP) noted that, despite the fire causing severe damage, they managed to save the main structure of the iconic church.

"After more than 9 hours of fierce fighting, nearly 400 firefighters from Paris extinguished the appalling fire," the BSPP announced on Twitter and noted two policemen and one fireman were slightly injured during the operation. "The structure of the cathedral is saved and the main works of art have been put somewhere safe, thanks to the combined action of the different services of the State working together," they added.

The Paris cathedral caught fire on Monday evening, causing the roof and spire of the church to collapse. Although the cause of the incident is still unknown, preliminary findings showed that the fire was accidental rather than a result of arson or a terror-related plot. French President Emmanuel Macron promised to rebuild the Notre Dame and billionaires Francois Pinault and Bernard Arnault have vowed to donate €100 million and €200 million, respectively, for the restoration of the cathedral.
