Cook: Apple will be donating to restore Notre Dame

The Chief Executive Officer of Apple, Tim Cook announced on Tuesday that the American tech company will financially help the efforts to restore the Paris Notre Dame Cathedral, which was severely damaged in a fire yesterday.

"We are heartbroken for the French people and those around the world for whom Notre Dame is a symbol of hope. Relieved that everyone is safe. Apple will be donating to the rebuilding efforts to help restore Notre Dame’s precious heritage for future generations," Cook wrote on his Twitter profile.

Major French companies Total, LVMH, Kering and L'Oreal have already pledged to donate millions of euros to restore the landmark Gothic cathedral, which is one of the most visited tourist sites in France and the whole of Europe. The cathedral caught fire yesterday afternoon and burned through the night until firefighters managed to put the blaze under control this morning. Notre Dame's main structure has been saved, as well as the priceless artifacts kept in its interior, but its iconic spire and roof have collapsed.
