Electrical short-circuit 'likely' cause of Notre Dame fire

An electrical short-circuit is the "likely" cause of the fire that ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on Monday, AP reported, citing a judicial police official. According to the source, due to safety reasons, investigators were on Thursday still not allowed to work inside the cathedral as the wooden planks were being installed to support the more fragile parts of the structure.

The cathedral was undergoing reconstruction works at the time of the fire which caused its spire to collapse, leaving emergency services and authorities in doubt over they would be able to save the 12th century edifice. Shortly after the fire was put out, a number of French companies, including Total, LVMH, Kering and L'Oreal, offered to donate money for the reconstruction which, according to the rector of the cathedral Bishop Patrick Chauvet, would last between five and six years.
