European shares in the red in premarket trade

Shares on major European stock markets were in the red on Wednesday, as investors digested earnings reports from SAP, Credit Suisse and Novartis released earlier in the morning. Italian energy company Eni is expected to release its financial results during the session.

A string of American companies are set to report their earnings as well, including Boeing, AT&T, Caterpillar and Biogen. In data, IFO's report on business climate is expected not long after markets open.

The DAX slid 0.05% in premarket trade, shortly before the opening bell. The CAC 40 lost 0.16%, while the FTSE 100 declined 0.14%.

The euro was down 0.15% against the dollar to go for $1.12104 at 8:55 am CET, while the pound contracted 0.11% compared to the greenback, changing hands for $1.29224.
