US shares trade mixed premarket as earnings continue

Shares on Wall Street were mixed in early premarket trading on Thursday, as earnings reports remain in focus of investors. European companies such as Bayer, Barclays and Nokia posted results earlier in the day, while UPS, Altria and Comcast are due to do the same before markets in the United States open. Amazon, Starbucks, Intel and Ford will follow after the closing bell.

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will meet with Japan's Finance Minister Taro Aso in Washington later in the day, ahead of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday. The two allies are set to discuss their trade relationship and other issues of concern.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index sank 0.29% in premarket trade at 4:30 am ET, while the S&P 500 was flat. The Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.65%.

The euro slid 0.17% against the dollar concurrently, selling for $1.11377.
