Microsoft jumps 5% as it hits $1 trillion market cap

Microsoft reached a $1 trillion market cap in extended trading on Wednesday and continued to jump in premarket trade on Thursday, following its earnings report that showed an annual jump in revenue of 14%. The tech giant's earnings per share increased 20% year-on-year.

In order to start the trading day on Wall Street at $1 trillion, Microsoft needs its stock to be worth $130.50. Microsoft jumped 5.01% before the bell and went for $131.27 at 6:33 am CET.

Apple was the first ever publicly traded company in the United States to hit the $1 trillion market cap and Amazon also reached the figure earlier this year. Currently, Apple is worth $976.8 billion while Amazon's market cap is 934.1 billion.
