Pilot strike in SAS leads to 587 cancelations

SAS AB said on Saturday that 64,000 passengers would be affected the next day as the strike by pilots in Denmark, Norway and Sweden continues, compared to today's 34,000 people. Negotiations with the unions with nearly 1,500 pilots failed yesterday when more than 70,000 passengers were affected. The holding company of Scandinavian Airlines System Denmark-Norway-Sweden said 587 are called off for tomorrow.

The strike disrupted both regional and longer lines and the carrier, partly owned by Sweden and Denmark, revealed departures operated by subcontractors, almost a third of total, are going as planned. Pilots are demanding reimbursement for pay cuts and the benefits they gave up on in 2012, when finances dried up. Other conditions for the resumption of services include changes to the work schedule. Talks have been ongoing since last month.
