Russia calls on UN to fight WH 'anti-Cuban' blockade

Russian Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations member states to jointly abolish the "anti-Cuban" blockade recently imposed by the White House administration. In a press release, the ministry also accused the United States of the "devaluation of democratic principles" and "rejection of international legal norms."

Last month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington will allow lawsuits against foreign firms operating on properties which were seized from American citizens after the 1959 revolution in Cuba. After that, Exxon Mobil Corp. filed a lawsuit against Cuban state-owned oil companies under a law also known as the Helms-Burton Act, asking for tens of millions of dollars in compensation.

The legislation was criticized by multiple US allies, including the UK, EU, and Canada.
