Walmart to raise tobacco purchase age to 21

Walmart Inc. will increase the age to purchase tobacco products to 21 in all its stores in an attempt to reduce the tobacco use by minors.

The company, one of the biggest cigarette sellers in the United States, also said it will stop selling fruit-flavored e-cigarettes after the US Food and Drug Administration last month called them out for selling tobacco products to children and teens.

The new restrictions will start on July 1. Earlier, pharmacy chain Rite Aid and Walgreens announced they will raise the tobacco purchase age to 21 in order to curb use by minors.
