Pound at 2-week low amid prolonged govt-Labour talks
The British pound traded lower against major currencies on Tuesday, as the government in London and the Labour Party agreed to continue negotiations on a bipartisan Brexit deal that would be able to pass the vote in Parliament. However, no breakthrough has been made in the talks. An earlier report quoted finance minister Philip Hammond who allegedly said that the negotiations are based on a "false premise" that a sensible deal with Labour is possible.
Compared to the dollar, the sterling was 0.33% lower at 4:21 pm CET, going for $1.29150, unseen since April 29. The British currency lost 0.21% against the euro at 4:22 pm CET, buying €1.15218, the lowest point since April 24. The pound dropped 0.44% against the Canadian dollar at 4:24 pm CET, changing hands for 1.73932, lowest since April 30.
