Ross: Huawei ban to enter into force tomorrow

United States Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Thursday that the ban on foreign companies expanding 5G networks in the United States will come into force on May 17.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV, Ross noted that Huawei, which is most affected by the ban, was not a part of the US-China trade talks. Earlier, the commerce secretary stressed "US technology will not be used in a way that is adverse."

The United States blacklisted Huawei after the administration of President Donald Trump warned against foreign companies developing 5G in the US. Trump called on US tech firms to advance their 5G networks and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo advised other nations not to use Chinese technology for 5G networks. However, the United Kingdom and France already said they will make their decision on Chinese technology independent of Washington's stance.
