Germany's Infineon halts Huawei shipments - report

German chip manufacturer Infineon Technologies decided to halt shipments to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Nikkei Asian Review reported on Monday, citing sources with knowledge on the matter. Infineon, however, has still not made a final decision on the issue and is expected to have meetings this week to assess the situation, the report indicated. The German chipamaker's shipments to Huawei mainly include microcontrollers and power management integrated circuits.

The news comes after the government in Washington decided to impose a ban on companies dealing with Huawei's 5G equipment in the US. The US Commerce Department put the Chinese tech giant on a Entity List, which red-flagged the company and and set a requirement for US firms entering deals with Huawei to first obtain a license for the shipments to be allowed.

Meanwhile, Google Inc. suspended its operations with Huawei and cut it off from its services, including Google apps. Huawei was only left with access to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
