European stock markets close with gains

Stocks on major European markets ended the trading session on Thursday with gains. Investors digested the news on Italy's communications with the European Commission in regards to its public debt issue. Rome's Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said that he hopes the government's letter to the EU's executive would prevent an infringement procedure from being initiated. Brussels warned Italy earlier that it should take measures to fix a 0.7% deviation of the country's GDP with regard to its structural deficit target.

The DAX increased 0.54% at the close, as Wirecard outperformed others, adding 2.27%. French CAC 40 climbed 0.49%. Kering and Vivendi advanced over 2%. In London, the FTSE 100 was up by 0.48% at the end of the session.

The euro traded flat against the dollar, buying $1.11366 at 5:32 pm ET, while the pound contracted 0.16% compared to the greenback, selling for $1.26068 at the same time.
