German retail sales drop 2% in April

Turnover in retail trade in Germany decreased 2% in April in real terms on a monthly basis, according to provisional results released by the country’s statistical office Destatis on Friday. Meanwhile, year-over-year the turnover rose 4%, in real terms.

In nominal terms, retail turnover rose 4.8% in April, compared to the same month a year earlier. Looking at the data for the January to April period, the retail turnover in Europe's strongest economy was up a real 2.2%, and a nominal 3.0%, compared to the same period of 2018.
