Wall Street starts higher after Trump remarks

Wall Street opened in the green on Thursday, despite comments from United States President Donald Trump about the possibility of further escalation of the ongoing trade war with China. Trump said that the US could raise additional $300 billion in tariffs on Chinese exports should Washington deem such action necessary.

Also, market participants are likely to react to the headcount slash in the private sector in May revealed earlier.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 0.12% at the start of trading session with Exxon Mobil Corp leading the gains jumping 1.27%. The Nasdaq 100 gained 0.12% at the same time as Tesla surged 4.53%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 rose 0.08% after the opening bell thanks in part to United Continental Holdings shares advancing 1.95%.

The euro jumped 0.43% against the dollar, changing hands for $1.1268 at 9:30 am ET.
