Asia trades with losses as Trump-Xi meeting remains uncertain

Stocks in East Asia were negative on Wednesday, as uncertainty looms over trade relations between the United States and China. Yesterday, US President Donald Trump said he is expecting a meeting with China's Xi Jinping at the G20 summit by the end of June. If the meeting doesn't happen, US president threatened to impose further tariffs on $300 billion worth of Chinese goods.

Japan's Nikkei 225 slid 0.25% at 7:46 am CET. South Korea's Kospi Composite was down 0.21% at the same time.

The Shanghai Composite index contracted by 0.45% at 8:05 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.73%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.81% at 8:05 am CET.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was flat at the same time.

The dollar was 0.17% lower compared to the yen at 8:12 am CET, buying ¥108.3366.
