UAE to establish $100M power plant in Yemen

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planning to establish a 120-megawatt power station worth $100 million in the city of Aden, which is located in the southern part of Yemen, UAE's state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday.

The station, which is provided by Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, is set to start operations this October. It will have two fuel storage tanks with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters each to ensure the diesel-cum-gas-run station will operate for 14 consecutive days. Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister Ahmed Al Maisari said the power station will add "significant value to the energy infrastructure in Aden and neighboring governorates."

Earlier, UAE Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash called for de-escalation, peace, and stability in the region, threatening retaliation against any attacks by Houthi rebels on civilian facilities in the region.
