Two oil tankers attacked in Sea of Oman - Iran media

Iranian media said on Thursday that two large oil tankers have been attacked in the Sea of Oman, a passage route for oil tankers that connects the Persian Gulf with the Indian Ocean. According to the reports, two successive explosions were heard, while some sources specified that the attacks on oil tankers caused the blasts.

Meanwhile, a maritime safety group from the United Kingdom - The Royal Institution of Naval Architects - warned of an incident in the Sea of Oman and urged "extreme caution."

The reported incident comes one month after a "sabotage" involving oil tankers at the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, for which Saudi Arabia and the United States blamed Iran. Following the incident, Insurance market Lloyd's of London said that Oman, a part of the Gulf of Oman, the United Arab Emirates as well as the Persian Gulf itself had been added to its list of areas that bear an "enhanced risk for mariner insurers."
