Frontline confirms its tanker caught fire near Oman

Norwegian shipping company Frontline Ltd. confirmed to local media on Thursday that its Front Altair oil tanker caught fire in the Sea of Oman earlier in the day, as media previously reported. It did not, however, confirm if it was hit by a torpedo.

The company's spokesman also confirmed that all 23 crew members have been evacuated to a ship nearby unharmed, noting that the crew largely consists of people from Russia, Georgia and the Philippines, with no Norwegians,

According to the reports, Marshal Islands-flagged Front Altair had loaded oil in Abu Dhabi before it sent a distress signal to Fujairah, a port of the United Arab Emirates at the Sea of Oman. Another vessel, Panama-flagged Kokuka Courageous, was also evacuated after reportedly coming under an attack, with no further details.
