Dish Network to buy $6B of T-Mobile, Sprint assets - report

Dish Network Corp. is nearing a deal to acquire $6 billion of T-Mobile US Inc. and Sprint Corp.'s assets, as a part of the wireless operators' effort to gain the regulatory backing for their merger, local media reported on Tuesday.

Allegedly, the Colorado-based television provider may announce the deal to acquire Boost Mobile, Sprint's prepaid mobile service, and the wireless spectrum the United States Department of Justice demanded be divested in order for the deal to be approved, people close to the matter told Bloomberg. According to prior reports, other possible buyers for the assets are Altice USA Inc. and Charter Communications Inc.

However, even if it gains regulatory approval, the deal may be blocked by a lawsuit recently filed by ten state AGs who allege that the merger of the two mobile operators would reduce competition and increase prices for the consumers.
