Europe closes mixed ahead of Fed decision

Equities on European markets closed mixed on Wednesday ahead of the Federal Reserve's interest decision. While policymakers are expected to hold rates, investors will be looking for cues from Chair Jerome Powell on a potential future rate cut. Meanwhile in Britain, the third round of voting in the Tory leadership contest will take place later in the day.

The DAX ended the day 0.19% in the red as Vonovia led the losses. In Paris, the CAC 40 rose 0.13% with Valeo as the top performer rising 3.49%. The FTSE 100 fell 0.53%; Ocado Group plunged 5.64%, followed by Rio Tinto dropping 4.50%.

The euro gained 0.23% against the dollar at 5:45 pm CET, buying 1.1219, while the pound advanced 0.60% versus the greenback, going for 1.2632.
