US starts WTO trade dispute with India over tariffs

The United States started a trade dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO) complaining about Indian tariffs on US products, a filing to the international organization showed.

India introduced retaliatory tariffs against the US in June as a response to Washington's tariffs on steel and aluminum products from India and the Trump administration's decision to revoke India's preferential trade status. New Delhi put tariffs on 28 US products and expects to earn an additional $217 million because of the move.

US President Donald Trump asked India to withdraw the tariffs in a tweet before the G20 summit where he met India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
