Trump hails economy, says trade deals are in the making

United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the US economy is showing "very good numbers" and added that Washington is working on multiple trade deals at the moment. The president did not mention trade talks with China in particular, but earlier in the day Beijing's foreign ministry confirmed that the US and China trade teams remain in contact.

Trump tweeted: "Very good numbers on the economy. Much potential for growth. Trade deals being negotiated or being set up for negotiation. We have been treated very unfairly (to put it mildly) by other countries for many years, but that is changing!"

Economic data from the US showed last week that nonfarm payrolls increased in June and the services sector growth increased slightly. A New York Fed survey published on Monday revealed that consumers in the United States expect inflation to rise in the short and medium term and are more optimistic regarding their employment. However, a small business survey on Tuesday pointed to lower optimism on increasing uncertainty.
