US stock trade higher in premarket after Chinese data

Major stock market indexes in the United States went from trading flat to trading higher on Monday as investors digested data from China which showed the country's economy recorded the slowest growth in 27 years as trade war tensions impacted businesses. Media reports in the US suggested President Donald Trump could fire long-time ally Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross as the trade negotiations with China aren't coming to a close and his department failed to include the citizenship question in the 2020 census.

Investors will be keeping a close eye on companies as the earnings season kicks off, with Citigroup Inc reporting before the bell.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.14%, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.11% and the S&P 500 traded 0.10% higher, all at 7:46 am ET.

The euro was 0.04% up against the dollar, going for 1.12752 at 7:47 am ET.
