Microsoft starts cloud partnership with AT&T

AT&T Inc.'s migration of most non-network workloads to the cloud, planned to be completed by 2024, prompted an agreement with Microsoft Corp. to start what they said would be "an extensive, multiyear alliance in the technology together with artificial intelligence and 5G, the fifth generation of mobile solutions. The signing of the contract announced on Wednesday will open the way for Windows maker to help the partner in the consolidation of the data center infrastructure and operations, they added.

Employees of the telecommunications giant are getting access to Microsoft 365 during the switch of non-network infrastructure applications to the Azure platform. "Microsoft will tap into the innovation AT&T is offering on its 5G network, including to design, test, and build edge-computing capabilities. With edge computing and a lower-latency 5G connection enabled through AT&T’s geographically dispersed network infrastructure, devices can process data closer to where decisions are made," Microsoft and AT&T Communications said.
