Wall Street opens lower amid earnings

Shares on the United States stock markets started the Thursday's trading session in the red as the earnings season continues. UnitedHealthcare, Philip Morris International reported higher net income, while Blackstone Group Inc.'s and Morgan Stanley's dropped. Microsoft Corp. was set to release its earnings later during the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.13%, as UnitedHealth lost 1.95%. The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.49%, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.19%. Netflix was the worst performer on both indexes, tumbling 10.60% on lower than expected subscription growth.

The euro was 0.09% lower against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, to change hands for $1.12147, while the pound increased 0.28% to $1.24686 at the same time.
