Hunt promises 'robust' response to tanker seizure

The detention of Iran's tanker in Gibraltar was legal and it was transporting oil to Syria, Jeremy Hunt said on Saturday. The United Kingdom's secretary of state for foreign and Commonwealth affairs added Iran showed "worrying signs" yesterday that it "may be choosing a dangerous path of illegal and destabilizing behavior" as it detained two British vessels. "As I said yesterday our reaction will be considered but robust. We have been trying to find a way to resolve Grace 1 issue but will ensure the safety of our shipping," he threatened in a tweet.

Gibraltar's top court yesterday said Iran's tanker would remain impounded for up to 30 days longer. Representatives of the government in Tehran are negotiating about the issue with the UK territory's officials.

Hunt said in a separate message that British-Iranian national Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe "has been cut off from contact with her family" after she was taken to a hospital run by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The imprisoned aid worker was supposed to be "getting medical treatment she needs."
