Nissan to trim over 10,000 jobs worldwide - reports

Japanese auto industry giant Nissan Motor Co. will axe more than 10,000 jobs across the globe, Kyodo News reported on Tuesday citing sources familiar with the matter.

The carmaker will carry out the cuts, which will affect 7% of its total workforce, through a mix of measures including early retirement. It said that they were being undertaken to review the company's production system and revive its performance. The new figure is a significant increase on the 4,800 jobs Nissan previously said it would trim in May.
