US negotiators to head to Shanghai on July 29 for talks

A negotiating team from the United States will head to China on Monday for talks aimed at ending the two countries' trade dispute, media reported on Tuesday.

The team, which will be led by Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, will arrive in Shanghai on Monday for face-to-face talks with their Chinese counterparts. They are expected to continue discussing ways to resolve the trade war between the world's two largest economies and will stay until Wednesday.

The news confirms previous reports which stated that the Chinese and US trade delegations would meet next week. However, the reports suggested that the venue might be the Chinese capital Beijing and not Shanghai. The talks will represent the first high-level dialogue between the two countries since their leaders Xi Jinping and Donald Trump met at the G20 summit in Japan last month.
