US: Talks constructive, China to buy farm goods

The White House said on Wednesday that high-level negotiations with China covered the issue of non-tariff trade barriers as well as services on top of intellectual property rights and forced technology transfer. The meetings were "constructive," the announcement adds.

The team from the government in Beijing included Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan, the US noted. China's representatives "confirmed their commitment to increase purchases" of agricultural products from the US, according to the statement. An unconfirmed report from the other side indicated the negotiators arranged for talks to continue in August on a working level.

China earlier said they had "candid and efficient" talks and claimed there were "deep" exchanges, but an official also criticized the US for allegedly "flip-flopping" and urged it to have "enough sincerity and good faith."
