Goldman calls Malaysia charges 'misdirected'

Goldman Sachs responded on Friday to charges Malaysia filed against 17 of its current or former executives, calling the action "misdirected."

"We believe the charges announced today, along with those against three Goldman Sachs entities announced in December last year, are misdirected and will be vigorously defended," the bank said in a statement.

Earlier in the day, Malaysian Attorney-General Tommy Thomas announced the charges against executives at Goldman Sachs International, Goldman Sachs (Asia) LLC and Goldman Sachs Pte. over their involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MBD) scandal and their "scheme to defraud the government of Malaysia."
