Hong Kong chief warns of sliding into 'abyss' amid protests

Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam (pictured) said on Tuesday that the Chinese autonomous city has reached a "dangerous situation" amid protests that have shown no signs of dying out.

"Take a minute to think, look at our city, our home - do you all really want to see it pushed into an abyss?" she said. Earlier, an official representing the government in Beijing in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region stated that "Hong Kong will slide into a bottomless abyss if the terror atrocities are allowed to continue."

The Hong Kong International Airport reopened yesterday after being closed for one day due to the protests against the policies of the central government in the former British colony. However, demonstrators took over several terminals again on Tuesday.
