Businesses very worried about HK airport halt - exec

Vice Chairman of Europe Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Davide De Rosa stated on Tuesday that the Hong Kong airport standoff is "very worrying" for businesses in the Chinese autonomous region.

Speaking to CNN, De Rosa, who also heads the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macao, said: "It just simply doesn’t look good ... It's a very worrying situation for the businesses, or for the companies doing business in Hong Kong, and then for Hong Kong itself." He added: "It doesn’t look like a situation that can resolved soon. I think it looks like a longer situation than expected."

Hong Kong airport departures were blocked for the second day in a row after protesters stopped passengers from checking in, leading to a closure of operations. The airport is one of the world's busiest with over 75 million passengers annually and represents an important hub for the Asian business community.

Earlier, the Hang Seng closed over 2% lower.
