Court gives go-ahead to Ryanair British pilot strike

A British court ruled that Irish airline Ryanair Holdings Plc's United Kingdom-based pilots could go ahead with their strike, media reported on Wednesday.

The High Court in London rejected Ryanair's application to stop the planned strike by up to 30% of its UK-based pilots, which will now go ahead as planned on Thursday and Friday ahead of a bank holiday weekend in Britain. However, Europe's largest carrier told passengers to arrive for their flights as normal and said that it did not expect "significant disruption" to its flights.

The news follows an Irish court's ruling earlier in the day which stopped Ryanair's Irish pilots from carrying out their strike. The airline alleged that the pilots decided on the strike after requesting that their annual income be doubled from £170,000 to more than £375,500 "just nine weeks before Brexit, which could severely damage Ryanair’s business and UK pilot jobs."
